What Are Deciduous (Baby) Teeth?

Deciduous teeth—commonly known as baby teeth, milk teeth, or primary teeth—are a child’s first set of teeth. These teeth begin developing before birth and typically start to appear around 6 months of age.

Most children will have 20 primary teeth in total—10 on the upper jaw and 10 on the lower jaw.
